When I bought my Xbox 2 years ago the only game I ever played was Rockband. It seems that now I spend the same amount of time watching a show or movie as I do playing a game. The addition of Netflix, Hulu, Zune and MSNBC have given me the ability to engage in programing that I would normally have missed. I also spend my downtime watching the latest Inside Xbox videos to help me keep up with the greatest new releases and community news. My Xbox has become my multipurpose console. This fall, Xbox has announced the addition of Bing to help search content and utilize the capabilities of the Kinect. Also Xbox 360 will be able to play live broadcast TV. The new user interface looks similar to Microsoft’s Windows 8 preview, Large tiles slide from left to right and convey multiple pieces of information. The new UI is very responsive and quick to render. It’s also completely integrated with the Kinect. You will no longer have to launch a separate UI to enable Kinect functions. One of my favorite features is the Cloud Storage. Cloud storage will let you easily access your profile and saved games from any Xbox console. Microsoft is trying to get rid of gamertag recovery entirely through the use of cloud technology. This will allow saved games to be moved onto Microsoft’s servers which will be able to be downloaded onto any console the gamertag is signed on too. Microsoft will also be allowing game publishers access to your Facebook account for achievement notification. You do have the option to opt out of this service, but like everything else its a cool way to let your friends know that you have conquered this achievement. With all this to keep my time occupied and all the new game releases I see a lot of late nights in my future.
